Monas Hieroglyphica: A Study of Dee’s Famous Symbol
The first of two studies upon John Dee's
Monas Hieroglyphica
by Dylan Warren-Davis. In this, Dylan looks closely at the symbolic elements that are captured in the title page of Dee's inspired work. What did Dee mean when he named his symbol 'The London Seal of Hermes'? Dylan explains that within its intricate structure there is a dazzling array of astrological, alchemical, and mathematical ideas. The symbol deserves close attention, for it encapsulates both the cosmology and symbolism of Hermeticism.
