Hi all Skyscript members:-)

I placed a new e-book in the website : The Manual of Astrology, by Raphael. It is a fac-simile.

I hope you find it useful!

Best regards

Thanks Clelia – I’ve made a notice about your new text on the ‘Astrology Texts’ page at http://www.skyscript.co.uk/texts.html

I hope you don’t mind me mentioning here that I have just added a number of new texts to that page, and have reworked the code so that the tables of links are now sortable by date, author, title or document type. There is also a ‘new additions’ box at the top of the page where I’ll add the details of new texts as notices are placed here in the forum.

In addition to this text by Raphael, and the recent addition of Zadkiel’s Grammar of Astrology on the Paulo’s Astrologiae Medieval site, I have also added the translated and
annotated first section of Cardano’s Complete Seven Sections, which has recently been made available by Valerie N. Livina & Anton L. Grigoryev (this is a great new translation and very beautifully produced - I strongly recommend it) plus a previously untranslated edition of Ibn Ezra’s Sefer ha-Olam (the Book of the World). Ezra’s text was noticed by Bill Sheeran who points out that it is a thesis by Nadja
Johansson written earlier this year, and definitely of interest to astrologers.

What with Ken Gilman’s wonderful addition of the 21 volumes of Considerations Magazine, we are being treated to a feast of great study material at the moment. I just need more leisure time ...

Hi Deb:-)

Great news! What was good now is even best! Congratulations for your enthusiasm and love for the Art, and at last but not at least for your amazing site!

I don´t know what is happening but last days I received so much food for thought that I don´t know from which to begin!

Again, thanks for bringing together so precious texts!

warm regards

Clelia

Happy to read you again.

Just to mention Cardano's aphorims have been already translated in Italian since many years.

I believe it's still in print. It lacks Valeria Livina comment, but translation is cura Giuseppe Bezza.

Another Professor in Pisa University, Faracovi, translated a part of Cardano's main work, the Comment to Tetrabiblos.

And my friend Lucia Bellizia (another university degree in ancient languages) translated his Praise of astrology http://www.apotelesma.it/upload/Encomium.pdf

Here in Italy we prefer translations inside academia, because Cardano cannot be translated without having a classical education and very long curriculum vitae.

You are lucky. I've long wished that more of Cardan's works were available in English.

I would too.

The comment to Tetrabiblos is very beautiful and explains many things which are not so clear in Ptolemy.

But it's very hard to find a very skilled translator because Cardano Latin is very hard, Cardano himself told he had many problems in studying Latin.

For example Argoli does not write like that, he is much easier to understand.

So this is the reason why just University professors with a classical curriculum vitae et studiorum worked at Cardano in Italy, because without a university knowledge of Latin, it's impossible a good translation.

But on the other hand - I don't know in UK, in Italy professors dedicated to astrology are not well considered Sad

I think that Lucia Bellizia - you met her in Perugia- is going to translate something else from Cardano; if I have her permission when she will finish I would happy to translate something of her Italian translation in English.
