For the people who believe that according to the Maya calendar in 2012 the world is coming to an end, here an article about a research that shows that the Maya calendarcount ends at 2220.

http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread513869/pg1

I usually am sceptical about those end of the world dates. They usually signify an end of a certain calendar count, like the end of a Lunar month or of a Jupiter-Saturn cycle and the Yuga's in Indian astronomy etc.

As does the Mayan long count in 2012 - not a sign of the end of the world, just completion of a long count cycle.

You mean, I'm going to have to wait longer for sunken R'lyeh to rise from the depths and for the Old Ones to come back in? Tongue Out

Yeah.

I'll just have to wait until the next time, which will probably be 2020 or something.

This year I didn't get around to purchasing new calendars until, on February 11th , I found a store with a fantastic selection discounted 75%. Perhaps humanity will have a similar lucky break, but on a somewhat larger scale. Off course, we will undoubtedly all go to war over whether the pictures should be of puppies or bodies in swimsuits.

It probably made money. And it's destined to become a cult classic in 2013.

I agree about the calendar length being a convenience matter. But more to the point I wouldn't rely on Maya forecasting. If they did expect the end of civilization in 2012, from their own, Mayan, perspective they were 500 years out.....

However, I am happy to take bets on end of the world. How about I give you $10m if the world ends and if it doesn't you can pay me that amount?

The world will probably not end but maybe civilization as we know it.
Humans are very self=centered and tend to forget that we are only one species. We are only a life form that thinks its intellegent but is driven by its hormones.

You mean civilization hasn't ended already? Humans will probably murder each other over religion whilst not noticing that the water is running out.

Not my problem - I will be back home on the planet Zog by then.

Byeee!!!

Actually if you watch all of those programs on the history channel you can see how the dukes and warlords were much worse than we are today.
For example, one war lord in Scotland would just throw his enemies down a pit and on spikes. His enemies would just die a slow death. The real problem is that our weapons are bigger and in the control of a few madmen. Maybe you be back on your planet by the time the world ends.

I used to be driven by my hormones. I miss that.

The difference between a man and a woman - you must your hormones - I don't and neither do the people around me who had to be part of the hell they caused me. Is that my mars (scorpio) square moon?

Anyway, having a thread follow a lighter note is a refreshing break.
