A question on the London Stock Exchange

1
I've just started reading Graham Bates' 'Money and the Markets', where, on p.26, he displays a chart for the LSE, with a date of March 17, 1802, set for 0:00 in London. However, Wikipedia says it was founded in 1571, and says nothing about 1802. And is that 0:00 time true, or is the chart a generic midnight chart?

Could someone clarify this for me?

Bates' book was written in the early 90's, so I imagine some things may have changed. I guess the FTSE would be the chart to use for current market moves?
