A frequent observation of mine is that, when a conjunction is forming, it will become active earlier than you expect if there is a parallel of declination between those two points forming before the conjunction, and this is valid for both progressions and transits.

Example: ASC in 1 Aries approaches conjunction to Mars in 5 Aries, and one expects "the action" to being when the orb less than 1 degree, but if that ASC is also parallel Mars, they will behave as if they were already in a tight conjunction.

Anyone else seeing this regularly?

This is really surprising. I checked several charts and I found that what you say is perfectly true. Really interesting stuff.
