Llewellyn publishes two books that might prove useful:

1. The "Astrological pocket planner"
This is a small pocket book. (ca. 6 x4 inches) It gives the aspects in Eastern as well as pacific time. The daily pages are similar in layout to the celestial guide, but are less detailed. They contain no lunar aspects, only the moon's phase and position, well as planetary stations and sign ingresses.

This book does contain an aspectarian, but that is in the back of the book The aspectarian is thankfully in Eastern as well as Pacific time. There is also an ephemeris, but the ephemeris is in GMT.

2. The "Daily planetary guide"
I do not possesses this book, but looking from the images on Amazon, the book does give lunar aspects in the daily pages. All in all it seems to be a closer fit to the Celestial Guide than (1)

I should add, if you want a GMT diary, the "Astro Moon Diary" published by Astrocal is ideal. It is a small spiral-bound booklet.

Each day shows the moon phase, the moon's sign, and the planetary ingresses/aspects. It has short essays on various astrological phenomena, and also has a midday ephemeris at the back.

Yes, I too am going to miss Jim Maynard's "Celestial Guide" and "Pocket Astrologer" offerings! I've been using them since in the 1990's. :(

Various astrology software can reproduce the same information about date/times of planet aspects and related events. That would allow one to create and print their own planner. For example, below is the transit events display in "Astrolog". (You can customize the time zone to use, and which objects and aspects are considered.)

For those of us who have downloaded astrolog, may we ask how do we do this?
Yes, here's how to customize the settings mentioned above:
  • To customize the time zone used in the "transit to transit times" list, simply change the time zone of the active chart. Select "Info / Set Chart Info", and change the "Time Zone" field.
  • To customize which planets and other objects are considered in charts, select "Setting / Restrictions".
  • To customize which aspects are considered, select "Setting / Aspect Settings".

The recently released Astrolog version 7.00 offers additional features in this area, and can reproduce the look and feel of the "Pocket Astrologer" even more accurately, with its new aspect calendar. This chart will display a month's worth of aspects, sign and direction changes, and Moon phases in graphical calendar format (and in whatever time zone you want).

Hey Walter

Glad to see more awesome features being added to a programme that has been awesome already a couple of decades ago!

I just wish the colours of the planets could be set individually and would not be the same as their zodiacal domiciles automatically, as not all astrologers are in agreement as far as the latter are concerned.

Ideally, even the signs could each be given a colour of its own, as the four elements are obviously not their only distinguishing features.

Moreover, giving a planet the colour of its associated sign by default in this system suggests that the two necessarily share the same elemental association, which is not the traditional view at all. While it may hold true for the Sun (fiery as Leo), the Moon (watery as Cancer), Mars (fiery as Aries), and Saturn (earthy as Capricorn), Venus and Jupiter deviate from that pattern, as the former is traditionally considered watery, and the latter airy. Whereas Mercury is more of a mixed bag in the traditional view.

These associations were of great importance e.g. in context with the ancient doctrine of the four humours whose balance was crucial for maintaining one's health.

In light of such considerations, I always felt unduly limited by what otherwise is a most versatile astro software.

They can be! :D Planet colors can be set in the "Setting / Object Settings" menu command, which has a color dropdown for each planet. On the command line, use the -YkO switch (which is present in the "astrolog.as" default settings file). Planets can be specific colors, or color references such as "Element" which means to use the color of the element of the sign that the planet primarily rules. Individual planet coloring was introduced in Astrolog 6.00, released in 2015.
Ideally, even the signs could each be given a colour of its own,
This can be done too! :D Use the "Setting / More Object Settings" menu command for them. Signs are colored the same as their corresponding houses, and house cusps are objects like planets. See the image above for an Astrolog chart with alternate planet and sign colorings (based on the planet's and sign's Rays as used in Esoteric Astrology).

Walter,

That's awesome! :D

Thank you for filling me in on those later developments I missed. Introductions and demonstrations such as the ones you are providing on this thread are really valuable.

I am sure that, like me, a lot of the friends of your software are not fully aware of the myriad of possibilities it actually offers, including some that you have added over the years.

Keep up the good work! :)

Cheers

Michael

Thank you! The newest versions of Astrolog have improved its aspect calendar feature. :D For example, Conjunction and Opposition glyphs that are eclipses are now filled in, which is another thing Jim Maynard's calendars showed. Astrolog calendars have additional font support, and can include background images, to make them look smoother and more professional. Also, Astrolog can do personal transit to natal calendars (to show events like Solar Returns) in addition to the standard transit to transit calendars (which show things like New/Full Moons). See the image above for an example of my transits for this November, in which the transiting planets are marked by "T".
