Here is below an article on the blog of Anthony Louis

Thanks for the article, it mostly answers my question as Lewis only mentions Morinus using quadrant, specifically Regiomontanus, and whole sign houses.
This still leaves me with a modifier to my original question.
If he invented a house system what led him to abandon it or was it all just a intellectual exercise. Speculative history at this point maybe.
I will also ask Anthony Lewis separately thanks to your link. I would also be interested on any other forum members thoughts as well.

Martin,
How would you translate the quote from Morin?
What does 'accidentally' mean then?

“Similarly in the nativity of King Gustav Adolf of Sweden, Saturn is formally in the 8th house and accidentally in the 9th, is exiled in the fire sign Leo and is damaged by a square from Mars in the 12th house …???

Thank you,
Ouranos
Blessings!

The context makes it clear. In the example immediately preceding, Morin explains what he means by 'accidentally' by describing his own chart with Mars in the quadrant 3rd house near the IC (transl. Holden):
But, given that this same Mars is conjunct the cusp of the 4th House through the semi-diameter [radius] of its orb and thereby Mars is determined accidentally to the significations of the 4th House ...

Martin Gansten wrote:Morin invented his house system for use in extreme latitudes where the Regiomontanus system breaks down (like most systems). I can't give you chapter and verse from the AG offhand, but then again, you said you didn't need that. ;)
Thanks for you insights Martin, much appreciated.

If you are interested and have the time AJ, there is a brilliant series of articles on site explaining all about the problem Morin was engaging in when he proposed a new way to deal with the issue of house cusps being lost at the poles:

The Polar Horoscope Series - Michael Wackford
https://www.skyscript.co.uk/polar1.html

-This is not a light read - but it is really informative about the issues underpinning all forms of house division.

As Michael reports and Martin has stated, Morin did not adopt that house system in practice - it was a philosophical suggestion on a philosophical problem that wasn't really an issue for him in the locality where he worked.

But it is worth considering that part of the reason Morin proposed this system philosophically is because he rejected equal house methods of division. He was ardent in support of the Regiomontanus system and wrote a dedicated section on his work demonstrating this point, and there are hundreds and hundreds of pages and examples where we see this quite obviously, without any doubt.

So why does one single comment from a massive collection of life-work get read out of context to suggest evidence of something Morin passionately argued against? You tell me :-?

Thank you for sharing Deborah!

A remarkable effort from Michael Wackford to explain the rationale behind House Systems.
Worth reading. As he says...
'Contrary to a common misconception that seeks to blame the houses or the houses' cusps for these reversals, it is in fact the local disposition of the ecliptic that causes the apparent 'problems'.

Should we get rid of the ecliptic? :)
Blessings!

I love that someone understood the same from that chapter.
The chapter is about Ptolemy's 5 degrees' rule, I never understood why the reader could understand differently :D
