In horary judgments is it more customary or correct to use the true node or the mean node?

I believe the "true" node is a modern concept based on the availability of modern very accurate measurements that were not available in the 17th century. The mean nodes are average positions of the points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic. Traditional horary used the mean nodes because the true nodes were not available. Usually the difference in position of the true and mean nodes is negligible. I think it is an open question whether the true nodes would give better results. Maybe someone knows of some research on this subject.

Thanks, Tony.

It's interesting you should answer because this question was sparked by something you wrote in "Horary Astrology Plain and Simple" - p.18 - about Nodal Degrees, namely, that "significant planets or points in the same degree as the Moon's Mean Nodes ... suggests the workings of fate - the matter is out of the querent's hands."

I would normally use the True Node and your last post makes this seem the sensible way to go. But I can't help but wonder why you made the distinction in your book that it was the Mean Node that was significant. Would it be safe to assume that what you wrote would apply equally to the True Node even if it differed from the Mean Node? Confused

P.S. Your book is clearly written and very helpful and I recommend it to my fellow horary enthusiasts. Thumbs up

Hello
I asked a question regarding true and mean node in this forum a couple years ago. Since then my personal observation is that the True node seems to work better in natal charts and in synastry but I haven't done enough Horary to draw a conclusion and I'm looking forward to Dr Louis' response to Alanna's question and also to other people's view on this.
I saw Lee Lehman using both ture and mean nodes in 'Essential Diginities'. I wonder why.

During the historical development of horary only the mean nodes were available to astrologers, so all the obervations and literature until modern times are based on the mean nodes. True nodes are based on very accurate observations with modern instruments. I haven't personally researched the true nodes in horary and continue to use the mean nodes out of tradition and habit. If anyone has experience comparing the true and mean nodes in horary, please post it here.
