Is astrology a respectable science? 1 by Mike I believe that astrology as a science is respectable in the sense that it is not inmoral nor intellectually corrupt, and it is a wonderful system of understanding reality in a deep manner, that could be used to serve others and improve understanding. If we define being respectable as being accepted by society or by major institutions, then it's a different story. The Catholic Church, one of the most important religious institutions, thinks that astrology is the work of the devil. Modern science thinks it's a sham, and society in general is a little suspicious of the whole thing. So it's respectable or not? Quote Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:55 pm
2 by Morpheus I believe that astrology as a science..... Reasearchers resrearched. So, how do you think that it is a science? Any empirical evidence. If we define being respectable as being accepted by society or by major institutions, then it's a different story. That's the ultimate story. It is customary in this world of human beings that acceptance is sought from society and major institutions. So it's respectable or not? N/A in view of the above quote. You answered the question yourself. Micheal i would suggest that you read Defining the Moment by Geoffrey Cornelius and if the book is not readily available you can read a very handy thesis on the said book by Kirk Little. The thesis could be down loaded from Garry Phillipson's website http://www.astrozero.co.uk/ Regards Morpheus https://horusastropalmist.wordpress.com/ Quote Mon Jul 30, 2007 12:36 am
3 by Mike I mean science as a field of study, as the term was used before the advent of modern science. I'm not referring to the modern naturalist, restricted definition of science, I'm not that naive or ignorant, you should know better. Quote Mon Jul 30, 2007 1:54 am
4 by Morpheus I mean science as a field of study, as the term was used before the advent of modern science. Ok. So, you are referring to Natural astrology or Judicial astrology. Before the advent of Modern Science. The astrology was classified as such. I'm not that naive or ignorant, you should know better. Then use clear phraseology. Your original post showed your learning. Just read it again. If you please.(underlined by me). If Modern Society, church and science dont accept astrology, then your question was referred to whom? Given the opportunity, no body is going to call himself bad. 5 by Mike I was talking about astrology in general not natural or judicial astrology. I was using more general definition of science as it's defined in the dictionary as a field of study, or craft. And yes I answered my own question, astrology is not respectable, it never was. I think that in the end we should do what we think is right, not what society thinks. Or maybe not....
