Hi Everybody,
I am teaching myself astrology and trying to resolve a fertility question. Having Venus in the 5th house is favorable for fertility, but read that having Saturn in the 10th house (opposite 5th house), does this completely negate the favorable effect of Venus?? Cancer rules the 10th and Aquarius rules the 5th, so these are both favorable water signs ruling these houses. Is the effect of Saturn null?
Thanks,

The opposite of the 5th is the 11th not the 10th. If Saturn opposes Venus by degree and is in the 10th, it would not necessarily negate any positive effects of Venus, but rather it would modify them depending on the signs and condition of the respective rulers of Venus and Saturn.

A better way to astrologically gauge fertility is to look at the signs on the cusps of the 5th and 11th (5th of the 7th house of partners) and their rulers. The fertile signs are the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. The barren signs are Gemini, Leo, and Virgo. Signs other than the fertile or barren signs are considered middle of the road. If everything is in fertile signs, then conception should be no problem. If everything is in barren signs, the chart indicates few or no children, but modern medicine can produce results undreamed of in the 17th century, and physicians are better equipped to answer this question than astrologers. Most charts have a little bit of both or neither and most people can have children.

Venus opposite Saturn might describe the children, but not necessarily determine whether or not the native will have them.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Thanks for the reply and the clarification. I am enjoying learning this stuff!
Good point "but modern medicine can produce results undreamed of in the 17th century, and physicians are better equipped to answer this question than astrologers"...
