Anyone know where I can find information on what sign faraway mysterious Eris has occupied in the past five years, what sign it is currently in, how fast it moves, how often it goes Rx, etc...? I think I had a serious encounter with the B&%$ (oops, I meant "lovely lady") right before she was "discovered", but I'm short on details for the chart analysis.

She's been going back and forth between 20 and 21 degrees Aries in the past few years. Was discovered at 19 Aries. Watch out when the lady squares your Venus is all I've got to say. Yes, she is fully operational at that time. Would still like to know what her motion looks like in terms of how often Rx, moving how fast when direct. The average is four years per degree, but I'd like to know a little more.

Also, if anyone has a tight natal conjunction, square, or trine (1.25 degree orb max) to a personal planet such as the Sun, Moon, Mercury, or Venus, or has just had a tight transiting conjunction, square, or trine, I would love to hear if your experience echoed her myth.

I'm also curious considering that the planet was named Eris pretty much at random by astronomers so that we would keep the mythological naming convention. I seriously doubt astronomers were paying attention to effects when they named it.

Edit: I was kind of hoping that astronomers kept the original name - Xena. I would've love to see how some astrologers would have delineated "Xena trine Jupiter".

Hi Sunny Dawn,

all the planets are Rx once a year, when they are opposing the Sun. The further the planet, the earlier it starts retrogading and the later it turns direct - so the further the planet is, the longer time of its yearly Solar cycle it's Rx.

You can calculate charts with Eris in astro.com -> Free Horoscopes -> Extended Chart Selection. You can also print an ephemeris of Eris on the main page http://www.astro.com/ (Ephemeris -> Ephemeris of... Eris). In the new version of Solar Fire Eris is added as a standard point, so you can do with it anything that you can do with the regular planets. (I don't have the new version, do I don't know much more about it).

Eris was discovered at a very unfortunate time actually. Precisely because Eris happened to be in Aries at the time. Aries unfortunately has some of the traits assosiated with Eris in mythology. Aries is the Fierce Individualist sign. It isn't really that warlike, even though it has an unfortunate name similarity with Ares, the greek war God, because most Aries in my experiance are elevated above conflict really. They are quick to forgive but also sensitive to being stepped on.

The problem of Eris cannot be solved, unless one can somehow isolate Aries from Eris at the moment, since nearly everyone is an Eris Aries. In order to learn of the effects of Eris we must look to history, not charts of the present people.

Eris moved from Pisces (collective feeling) to Aries (personal freedom and assertion) in 1928. Since people must be at least 20 really to hold much influence in society, it is pretty clear that the rise in Eris Ariesians coincides with the end of WW2 and the rise and massive success of radical movements calling for greater freedom for the individual in general from collective controls, also for deviant sexual forms (like Homosexuality) and also Feminism and the expression of a Woman's individual autonomy through violence en-masse in the form of Aborton under the slogan the 'Right to Choose' which resonates so well with an Ariesian mentality.

As Aries gained power we have seen a great increase in personal freedom, but a general breakdown in what could be called the 'Social and Sexual Order', with Divorce for instance very high and society worrying accepting (to some) of sexual deviance as long as it is 'Consensual'. Leave me alone to follow my own chosen path! The eternal Arien cry turning into a social law.

A society where individual rights and freedoms are sancrosanct, coinciding with social and sexual chaos, seems very Aries if one considers Eris as a dwarf planet governing social law and discourses, the discourses people of all political and social trends must enter into to avoid isolation. So the assertion of Individual Rights against the Collective judgement, the Arien obsession with Individual Rights, enshrined as essential 'Human Rights', guaranteeing the rights of the traditionally socially outcast, are the Arien social forces.

Uranus is the natural balance of Eris. Because Uranus is the individual defined against the collective. It allows people and small scales societies to rail against the influence of Eris, by mantaining a state of vigilant rebellion that is usually fairly futile though will be judged perhaps noble when the present Erisian sign has passed into another.

To sum up, Eris is the Social Law. That unseen concept that binds all discourses together, save those who are happy with isolation and scorn by the rest.

Pisces was the earlier sign. This is a sign of Collective feeling and sentimentality. It resulted in Communism, Fascism, Socialism and Democracy. The dominance of the group, the collective, the nation, is the primery concern of the Erisian Pisces. Racism, Destructive Collectivism and Xenophobia are the negative outpouring of the Erisian Pisces. Beacause Pisces is the sign of collective feeling.

Anyway, this is my understanding on the actual role of Eris. It relates to the kind of the governing axis of social discourse in society. The same kind of conflicts happen regardless but the way they are framed relates to where Eris is in the charts of those having the argument.
