It’s a known method of prediction “for all signs”, assuming your Sun sign as 1st house and reviewing all transiting planets positions in signs as in houses, starting count from your Sun sign.
So, I’m Taurus and Mars now in Leo – in my 4th house. And the big planets crowd in Libra now – my 6th house from Taurus.
And with that sextile of Mars to Sun-Mercury-Venus I’m having a lot of routine work assignments (6th) while working from home (4th).
Do you see something going on in your life looking from this perspective?

I think Sydney Omarr's yearly horoscope books go by this method. I've found these books to be generally true in the sense of what are auspicious times to persue activities indicated by my sun sign.

My sun is in Gemini, so I'm kind of an info-phile. I had an almost hyperactive need to read and research when the sun/Mercury/Venus were cycling through Leo, the third house from my sun sign. It died down a bit in Virgo and is now picking up again as the sun cycles through Libra - but with more recreation oriented things (I'm planning a vacation).

People probably shy away from this method because they may think it's too general. But I look at it like the houses from the sun represent aspects to one's "purpose in life"; from the moon, one's emotions; and from the ascendant one's physical existence.

I believe that Indian astrologers use the Moon sign and sometimes the Sun sign as first house when the birthtime is not known and/or when using divisional charts of high numbers with an increased inaccuracy of the Ascendant if the birthtime is not known to the minute.

I`ve also seen in western astrology books that the Sunrise chart is used when birthtime is unknown.

I think Indian astrologers routinely look at the chart with the Moon house as an alternative ascendant from a whole sign perspective. It is seen as a valid technique and not just utilised because of lack of natal data (although that is an option too). However, I think its just used in women's charts. I haven't heard about doing this with the Sun too but I am no authority on Indian astrology.

The Roman era astrologer Vettius Valens also describes at length using the Lot of Fortune as an alternative ascendant using a whole sign approach. In principle though I think looking at natal charts with both luminaries in this way could be very instructive.

In modern astrology I seem to recall Uranian astrologers have experimented with charts with both the Sun and Moon as an alternative to the ascendant sign/degree.
