Good day,

The captioned book written by Prof. Dr. Robert R. Newton of John Hopkins University, published in 1977, currently out of print but available used at high prices, according to a very short review i read of it, accuses the 'Price of Astrologers' of:

* Forgery of historic and astronomic data and use of such data to support his theories;

* Amongst such forged data are the dates of the reigns of kings of ancient Babylon and astronomic data from ancient astronomers.

Might someone be familiar with this book (428 pages) and kindly inform us if

a) it is worthwhile procuring and reading and

b) if its quite negative accusations seem warranted?

Thanks and kind regards,

lihin

I found very little written about the book in the way of reviews good bad or indifferent. Here is one review that might be of interest.

This book has had a following, both pro and con. If you go to Mark T. Riley's website, you will find his articles on Ptolemy. www.csus.edu/indiv/r/rileymt

The "crime of Ptolemy" (apparently penned as a reference to de Santillana's The Crime of Galileo) has to do with fudged data in the Almagest, so far as I can determine (I've not read the book.) On the other hand, I give Mr. Pt. some credit for accomplishing as much as he did in the 2nd century AD.
