Wedding

Astro-meteorology anyone?! 8) "What will the weather be like for X's wedding?" 18th. January 2005, 3:07 PM GMT, Worcester UK, 14 degrees Cancer rising. (That was the time of the horary, not the wedding!)
I took the 5th house to signify the wedding. Libra on the cusp, so first indication = warm/moist. Venus rules Libra and is a cold/moist planet, so more moisture. But Venus, ruler of Libra is in Capricorn, so = cold/dry. However, Jupiter is conjunct the 5th house cusp, and Jupiter = hot/moist, so more moisture. And Saturn, cold/dry planet, ruler of Capricorn is in Cancer, cold/moist, indicating more moisture. So the balance of probabilities seems to suggest that the weather will be wet for the wedding. Anyone care to comment?

Hi Harlequin,

I suppose asking a horary is one way of doing this. However, I would probably be more inclined to look at the wedding chart for the weather. Do you have the date and time of this wedding? If so, I would probably apply similar principles to the event chart to what you just did with the horary.

Hi Sue, thanks for your suggestion. That would be an electional chart rather than a horary chart wouldn't it? Anyway, I cast the chart for the event, 30th. September 2005, 1:30PM GMT, Droitwich, UK. 13 degrees Sagittarius rising.
5th house Taurus, = cold/dry
Venus, ruler of Taurus in Scorpio = cold/moist
Although Mars (hot/dry) is in the 5th, it's close enough to the cusp of the 6th to be considered in the 6th house, so I've discounted it.
The antiscion of Saturn (cold/dry) falls in the 5th house, at 21 Taurus, so afflicting the wedding. Putting this together with the horary chart, the judgement seems to still be cold/moist. So a cold wet day seems indicated. Would you agree?

I don't see why the 5th house ruler is so relevant, especially in the chart for the event itself. A marriage is normally signified by the 7th house. Of course you might have been turning the chart for the horary, but if so, it's not necessary to turn it for the event chart.

I'm certainly no expert but a couple of points that struck me are that
Mercury is culminating on the S.N.and the Moon is in Virgo applying within a few degrees to the opposition of Uranus. Virgo is cold and dry and Mercury is supposed to bring windy or turbulent weather. I've often wondered whether the weather at a wedding reflects in any way upon the long term nature of the marriage. I know that seems quite superstitous but it seems to have done for some of the weddings I've been to.

Hi Deb, thanks for your comments. I took the 5th house to signify the wedding because a wedding is a happy celebration, a pleasant event, whereas I understood the 7th. to signify the other person. Have I got my wires crossed with this reasoning?
Your observations about the weather and its effect on the marriage were very interesting, I'd not considered that idea before!

Not necessarily. Parties and social occasions are attributed to the 5th house ? I wondered if you were looking at it in this way. Questions relating to marriage as a permanent partnership are 7th house. I suppose if your interest is in the reception and more about the pleasant conditions of the celebrations it would be correct to consider the 5th house of the horary. Personally I?d have thought that the social occasion takes second place to the indications for the marriage itself, but maybe I?m wrong; it depends on the focus of the question. In either case for the event chart the ascendant relates to the event taking place at that time, so you could read the 5th house as the indications relating to the celebrations and social setting, and the 7th for the marriage. For the indications on the weather though, I?d put the focus on the Moon and the planetary aspects.

Hi Harlequin,

I was about to respond to your post last night when my phone rang and it was way past my bedtime when the call ended. :)

I don't know all that much about weather forecasting but I have been reading about it for awhile now in relation to my interest in mundane astrology. Deb is right when she says to focus on the Moon and the planetary aspects. That is one of the main keys and will give a substantial amount of information.

Another area that is to look at the 4th house. I remember reading (or maybe I was told this) that 80% of the information you need comes from the 4th house. We look at the planet that rules the 4th (traditional), and any planets in that house. The next of importance is the Ascendant. Aspects formed by the ruling planets and any planets in these houses need to be taken into account. Look at the condition of the planets. If they are strong and in dignity it can indicate good weather. If they are weak and without dignity then the weather may not be so good.

As Deb pointed out, the Moon is crucial and will take its energy from the planet it aspects. For example, if the Moon aspects Saturn, it can indicate cold and dry conditions. It it is Jupiter then it may be hot and moist. Mercury is another planet to look at in this way. The orbs are generally kept very tight, no more than 1?. I would look to the event chart for this rather than the horary chart.

However, it might be good to take a step back and look at the lunation charts that immediately preceeding this wedding. Generally, weather forecasting is done using a series of charts, starting with the four ingress charts, eclipse charts, lunation charts, major conjunction charts (eg. Jupiter/Saturn) and Mercury ingress charts. It is the series of lunation charts (beginning with the New Moon) that are studied as an indicator of rain.

Of course, with anything in astrology, it is not quite that simple. People specialise in this field and become very good at it. What they generally emphasise is the importance of cycles and understanding the weather patterns for the area. It comes from a series of charts, not just a one off. But it is possible to gain some information from the lunation chart alone for very short term forecasting.
