National Charts for the USA 1 by Mark 1. Introduction 2. LMT or LMT? 3. Links to articles on various charts USA 4. Charts for USA displayed Introduction No country has spawned more proposed national charts than the USA! There are numerous charts for July 4th 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was agreed. However, there are also a significant number of other dates in US history that have been proposed by astrologers as the basis for a national chart. I have provided data on all the main charts below. The Continental Congress declared war with Great Britain on July 6th 1775 a year before the Declaration of Independence. This has therefore led to the advocacy of this date by some astrologers in the so called Boyd chart and its variants. Historical research has also revealed that Continental Congress took votes for independence from Great Britain on July 1st and 2nd and both of these dates have been proposed as dates for the US national chart. However, while working together through the Continental Congress the 13 original states all remained completely independent until the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union was agreed in 1777 and ratified in 1781. The Articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most of the power with the state governments. Nevertheless as the first form of American government the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union can be seen as the first American government. Several astrologers have therefore proposed charts for the signing, and ratification of the Articles of Confederation. The need for a stronger Federal government soon became apparent and eventually led to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The present United States Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation on March 4, 1789. Astrologers have therefore examined charts for the signing, ratification and the date of commencement of the constitution. Arguably, the constitution embodies modern America with the creation of institutions like the House of Representatives, Senate, Presidency and Supreme Court. However, other dates can be considered. For example the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781 represented the de facto independence of the American states from Great Britain. In contrast the Treaty of Paris in 1783 represented the diplomatic end to the war and the formal recognition of the United States as an independent nation by Great Britain. The Treaty of Paris was therefore the de jure recognition of the United states. Finally, i have included data for the inauguration of George Washington in 1789. This can be seen as the foundation chart for the Presidency. Although, not strictly a national chart the institution of the Presidency is so important I felt it deserved listing. I personally, think several charts can be radical for a country reflecting key moments in a nations history. Different charts may also reveal different aspects of America. To determine the accuracy of a chart astrologers usually sort through a timeline of key events to determine if a chart is ''radical'' and responds to transits, progressions, solar arcs, primary directions etc. However, such rectification should arguably only follow thorough historical research into the timing of a chart being used. Before you look at the charts themselves I want to offer you links to some interesting articles discussing the competing charts (largely for the DOI/July 4th). Let me start by providing the link to an excellent episode of The Astrology Podcast (episode 252) hosted by Chris Brennan and Nina Gryphon. Its entitled, What is the birth chart of the United States? You can also download a written transcript of the whole episode. A Question of time in historic charts The US only legally adopted its current time zones in Links on proposed charts for the USA The astrology podcast episode below provides good coverage of the main charts proposed for the USA from early settlement up to July 1776. The programme does not consider any candidate charts after 1776 such as the various charts for the Articles of Confederation or the Constitution. https://theastrologypodcast.com/2020/04 ... ed-states/ General articles exploring all the July 4th chart times http://www.astrology.co.uk/news/USA.htm https://www.astrodynamics.net/real-astr ... 7-version/ Articles on the Sibly (Sagittarius rising) chart: The popular Sagittarius rising chart for July 4th 1776 is spelled Sibly not Sibley. Its derived from the English astrologer, physician and herbalist, Ebenezer Sibly (1751-1799). Ebenezer Sibly's chart was first published in 1787. Sibly included this strange but fascinating "chart" as an engraving in his book, The Celestial Science of Astrology. It simply states, "4th July, 10H 10M P.M., 1776," with no place specified, perhaps assuming we will default to Philadelphia. The data surrounding the chart displayed by Sibly are not straightforward and Sibly's chart data is rather muddled leading to at least two separate times that can be derived. The American astrologer Dane Rudhyar mistakenly used the spelling Sibley in his articles on the USA national horoscope in the early 1970's and unfortunately many astrologers have followed Rudhyar in this error. http://www.astrology.co.uk/news/sibly.htm https://www.astrology.co.uk/news/sibly.htm http://cura.free.fr/xxv/22sibly.html#N http://www.khaldea.com/rudhyar/astroart ... cope.shtml http://www.khaldea.com/rudhyar/aad/aad_ ... iece.shtml https://alextrenoweth.co.uk/sibley-chart-4/ Lastly, a critique of the popular Sibly chart by sidereal astrologer Kenneth Bowser. He proposes a time of 12.16pm LMT for a July 4th chart This gives a Virgo rising ASC in the sidereal zodiac and Libra rising in the tropical zodiac. Unlike many criticisms of the Sibly chart based on its alleged historical improbability Bowser focuses on astrological problems he sees in the Sibly chart: https://www.westernsiderealastrology.co ... mViQsRc5jw Articles on the Gemini rising chart for the USA: https://www.light.org/research.cfm?RS=11 http://tonylouis.wordpress.com/2012/02/ ... ing-chart/ https://tonylouis.wordpress.com/2016/11 ... ing-chart/ https://tonylouis.wordpress.com/2017/03 ... revisited/ https://karenchristino.com/tag/gemini-rising/ Articles on the Scorpio rising chart for the USA Three articles advocating the Scorpio rising chart for July 4th 1776 by Michael O'Reilly. https://www.neptunecafe.com/scorpio-rising http://neptunecafe.homestead.com/ScorpioRising.html http://neptunecafearchives.homestead.com/Main.html Article on various charts for USA including Virgo rising for DOI. Notes: Proposed by the astrologer and historian Gary Lorentzen Gary Lorentzen made the following comments to me in a forum post on the Mundane Astrologers FB group giving the historical background to the Continental Congress two votes for independence on July 1st and 2nd 1776. ''It's the first majority yes vote for independence, which was taken July 1, 1776, beginning at 7pm, the 9 yes, 2 no and 2 abstentions were confirmed within about 10 mins...I place it at 07:08pm. That vote was a binding vote to separate from Britain. S. Carol asked for a second vote to accommodate Delaware, whose delegation was missing a key member, and therefore abstained. They agreed and took a second vote the next day sometime about 11:30am. That vote confirmed the vote from the previous day, with Delaware voting yes instead of abstaining. Penn and S.C. then saw no reason not to vote yes on the second round (they were the 2 no votes the day before), since it had already been agreed they were to declare independence. Jefferson was tasked on July 1 with finishing the official statement, a rationale for independence. That went through 2 edits and was finally approved in the 11th hour of the morning on July 4. So, I use all three of those charts, but the fact is, whatever happened between July 1 and July 8 (when Independence was publicly announced and the Declaration was distributed), all the events flowed from the first vote on July 1. I first ran across this July 1 date a few years ago in a published lecture by a Dr. Powell of the Univ of Delaware (historian) who was making a case for July 1 as the real 'birth date' of the U.S., so I call it the Powell chart.'' She claimed this time was first proposed by Ronald Howland. However, later historical research by Ronald Howland and Gary Lorentzen indicates the debate on the DOI actually completed sometime around 11am. 13.
