The thema mundi normally appears with 15 cancer rising

Moderator note: [color=brown][b]As the poster is new here and I believe English is not his/her first language I am taking the unusual step of assisting here.

The poster is attracted to the ideas of the early 20th century astrologer Johannes Vehlow. He proposed a variant on the equal house system with the ASC in the centre not the beginning of the 1st house.

In his book Vehlow cites the Thema Mundi of ancient astrology as his source for his house system In particular Vehlow suggested the ASC was located at 15 Cancer in the Thema Mundi.

Are there any ancient sources actually supporting such a view of the Thema Mundi?

I found this very old thread from 2005 on Skyscript that examines the Thema Mundi.

There is brilliant post there by a former Moderator on Skyscript called Sue Toohey. (who sadly passed away much too young)

http://skyscript.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1802&start=0&sid=91605ad5fb86ab530f1858cbf4efac01

Sue pointed out that the Roman Astrologer Firmicus Maternus in his Matheisis seems to be our source for putting each of the planets in the 15th degree of a sign. Each planet is in its sign of domicile rulership. However, this doesn't seem to be explicitly about an ascendant degree.

Moreover, the Sun falls in the second house of the Thema Mundi with the Moon in Cancer in the first. The link made by Johannes Vehlow between the rising Sun on the ASC and house cusps therefore doesn't find explicit support in the Thema Mundi.

Still, I need to check the Mathesis to see exactly what is said.
