|Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2016 9:46 am Post subject: Terrorist Incidents-Data Thread.
|I have decided to create this ongoing locked thread to record data on major terrorist attacks across the world. Sadly, this seems to have become an all to common feature of our world. While this is a very grim subject I hope this thread will eventually be a useful resource for other astrologers.
Behind these events I think it is the role of the mundane astrologer to research more important charts in the astrological hierarchy that might offer an explanation such as ingress , eclipse, national and prior lunation charts.
I also think that when a country is involved in incessant warfare or terrorist insurgency over several years it may be unrealistic to seek to find an explanation in a short term event chart.
I will be constantly updating this thread but I decided to make a start after the recent tragic bombing in Baghdad. If you spot any errors or want to see more data included please send me a PM. My plan is to eventually go back and list major terrorist incidents prior to the 9/11 attacks.
Due to the massive escalation of Islamic Jihadi-Salafi terrorism across the globe in recent years, since the emergence of The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS/ISIL), I will largely be confining listings to incidents where mass fatalities occurred leading to 10 deaths or more in a single incident. There are sadly just too many terrorist shootings and bombings at present to list them all here. However, if an incident with fewer fatalities attracts International attention (for example the Prophets Mosque attack I will be recording it)
For reading convenience I will be listing the most recent incidents at the top of the thread.
Balad Bombing, July 8th, 2016
Islamic State carried out a triple suicide attack on the evening of Thursday July 8th, near a Shi'ite mausoleum north of Baghdad, which killed at least 35 people and wounded 60 others, according to Iraqi security sources.
A man detonated an explosive belt at the external gate of the mausoleum at around 11 p.m., allowing several gunmen to storm the site and start shooting at worshippers on the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr festival, according to the security sources.
At least one gunmen blew himself up in the middle of the crowd while another was gunned down by the guard of the mausoleum before he could detonate his explosive belt. The site also came under rocket fire during the attack that was claimed by Islamic State. The ultra-hardline Sunni group said in a statement the attack was carried out by three suicide bombers wearing explosive belts.
The attack on the Mausoleum of Sayid Mohammed bin Ali al-Hadi reignited fears of an escalation of the sectarian strife between Iraq's Shi'ites and Sunnis. The Shi'ite form a majority in Iraq but Sunnis are predominant in northern and western provinces, including Salahuddin where the mausoleum is located.

Dallas Police Shootings
On the evening of July 7, 2016, at the end of a peaceful protest, Micah Xavier Johnson ambushed and shot twelve police officers and two civilians in Dallas, Texas, United States, killing five of the officers. Johnson was an African-American Army Reserve Afghan War veteran who was reportedly angry over recent police shootings of black men. A protest was being held against police killings in the aftermath of the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, in the preceding days.
Following the shooting, police confronted Johnson at a parking garage, and a standoff ensued. In the early hours of July 8, police killed Johnson with a bomb attached to a bomb disposal robot. Some experts believe it was the first time in U.S. history a robot was used by police to deliver lethal force.
The gunfire began in downtown Dallas at 8:58 p.m. During negotiations, Johnson said that he acted alone and was not part of any group. The standoff ended at about 2:30 a.m. the next day, after the shooter was killed by a C-4 bomb deployed and set off by a robot. A sweep of downtown Dallas found no presence of explosives.
Following the shootings there was a Presidential press Conference by Barack Obama. He ordered that US flags be hung at half mast from all Federal Buildings. In response to the shootings both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump suspended their presidential campaigns.
The shooting was the deadliest incident for U.S. law enforcement since the September 11 terrorist attacks.

On June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old American security guard, killed 49 people and wounded 53 others inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, United States. He was shot and killed by Orlando police after a three-hour standoff. Pulse was hosting Latin Night and most of the victims were Hispanic. It was both the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman and the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in U.S. history, as well as the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks in 2001. It was also considered a hate crime.
In a 9-1-1 call shortly after the attack began, Mateen swore allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. He later told a negotiator he was "out here right now" because of American bombing campaigns in Iraq and in Syria and that the negotiator should tell America to stop.
Initial reports said he may have been a patron of the nightclub and used gay dating websites and apps, but Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officials said they have not found any credible evidence to substantiate these claims. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) also conducted an investigation and said it found no links between ISIL and Mateen.
