Looking for a verse 1 by Martin Gansten This is a long shot, but I wonder if anyone recognizes this half-stanza: यो भावः स???वामिसौम???याभ???यां दृष???टो य???क???तो ऽयमेधते yo bh??vaḥ sv??misaumy??bhy??ṃ dṛṣṭo yukto ’yam edhate 'The house that is aspected [or] joined by its ruler and a benefic prospers.' -- from any source except the Bṛhatp??r??śarahor?? (where, in some editions, it is found at 74.10). It is cited without any source by Balabhadra in the mid-17th century, and I wonder if he may have got it from somewhere else, as he doesn't typically quote the BPH. https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Fri Oct 13, 2017 3:14 pm
2 by pankajdubey Are you looking for the exact phrase in an old style copy paste or a similar meaning phrase ? Saravali chapter 3 verse 25 has : आत???मीयनाथदृष???ट: सहितस???तेनैव तत???प???रियैर???वापि । Quote Sun Oct 15, 2017 7:13 am
3 by Martin Gansten Thanks, Pankaj, but I'm looking for the exact phrase. The principle is widely recognized, of course. https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Sun Oct 15, 2017 9:50 am

I never chanced to read it in BPHS but my first intro to the yo yo was from Shatpanchasika written by Prithuyasas , Son of Varahamihira - the commentary is by Bhattotpala. Adhyaya 1 shloka 3 - it has an additional यो https://archive.org/details/ShatpanchashikaVSSastri Quote Sun Oct 15, 2017 2:26 pm
5 by Martin Gansten Indeed, I know the Ṣaṭpañc??śik?? verse, but it is a different one (the metre is शालिनी ś??linī, not श???लोक śloka). The one I quoted is in the versions of the BPH published by Ranjan and by Sagar, but I suspect it may be found in some other text as well. https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Sun Oct 15, 2017 4:20 pm
6 by pankajdubey Are you looking for an interpolation - not very cleverly done. Quote Sun Oct 15, 2017 5:54 pm
7 by Martin Gansten Not entirely sure what you mean, Pankaj, but as I'm sure you know, Sanskrit authors often borrow from each other, with or without attribution. The verse is there in some editions of the BPH, but it might have been somewhere else first (or later, for that matter). https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Sun Oct 15, 2017 7:06 pm
8 by pankajdubey I meant, if you were trying to unravel a not very clever attempt at interpolation. The lineage is of Guru shishya and like a lecture note , the attribution is to the lecturer or the Guru. ‘My Guru ji used to say’ is sufficient authority Quote Mon Oct 16, 2017 5:49 am
9 by Martin Gansten Indeed! No, I am just trying to figure out what sources Balabhadra was using. It could be the BPH, but if so, it would seem to be a one-off. When quoting non-T??jika works, he typically goes for Var??hamihira and Śrīpati. https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Mon Oct 16, 2017 6:44 am
