Dissociate Aspect

- Where planets are in an aspect but the signs they are placed within are not in the same aspectual relationship.

For example, Leo and Sagittarius bear a trine relationship to each other and therefore in classical astrology any planets within these signs are thought to share in that harmonious relationship. However a planet at 28° Leo is within orb of a square aspect to a planet at 2° Sagittarius.

Dissociate aspects are considered weakened in effect, or represent a contradictory principle or barrier which needs to be overcome in order for the aspect to fully express itself.

For a fuller explanation and diagram see 'Application & the Development of Orbs' in the article The Classical Origin and Traditional Use of Aspects.
