For those who are interested in this kind of data, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale hit Algeria on Wednesday night, 21 May (2003). The U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center said the epicentre was east of Boumerdes, near the village of Zemmouri, (35n44, 0e45). The tremor occurred at 7:44 pm Central European Time (CET) (18:44 GMT).
Latest reports are that at least 250 people have been killed and 1600 more injured.
