Pandemics in Medieval & Renaissance Mundane Astrology 1 by Mark Hello All. The traditional astrologer P.James Clark has written this interesting article on how medieval astrologers delineated plagues. In the case of the Black Death which struck western Europe in the mid 14th century it was seen as astrologically prefigured by the great conjunction of 1345 of Jupiter & Saturn which also had Mars present in the planetary configuration. https://classicalastrologer.me/2013/04/ ... ic-plague/ While P. James Clark does not mention comets in his article I know from my own research that many traditional astrologers attributed their appearance in the sky as a sign of death and contagion. 2 by Mark Another article looking at astrological approaches to pandemics in the past. Written by a non-astrologer, the piece is surprisingly sympathetic and entitled 'Before epidemiologists began modelling disease, it was the job of astrologers'' This article elaborates on the conjunction theory found in medieval and renaissance astrology as an explanation for plagues. It also discusses the research of the English 17th century astrologer John Gadbury as the beginning of a more empirical approach in trying to explain plagues by modelling their impact with statistics. https://theconversation.com/before-epid ... gjLb7gprE8 Yet again though the role of comets in medieval and renaissance astrology as an explanation for plagues is not discussed. Ironically, it was John Gadbury who actually wrote the last significant astrological work exclusively devoted to comets in 1665 entitled De Cometis. It was in response to the three comets that appeared between 1664 and 1665, It gives a philosophical, historical, and astrological description of comets. It also argues these comets were connected to the great plague that occurred in London in this period. In particular Gadbury focuses on a comet that occurred in the tropical sign of Aquarius (a human sign) as a malefic portent of the plague to come. https://paulkelleyvieth.com/ma-coursewo ... etis-1665/ As thou conversest with the heavens, so instruct and inform thy minde according to the image of Divinity William Lilly Quote Thu May 21, 2020 10:35 pm
