hi there,

i am curious if any of the free astro software programs have the 90 degree wheel feature found in solar fire and a few other programs in popular use?

i really wish that morinus had this feature, because otherwise i really enjoy morinus... does anyone know if any of the others have this feature?? i find it a feature that i am always using, in spite of the fact it is defined as a cosmobiology feature that some astrologers may be unfamiliar with - i really lean on it a lot...

thanks
james

Hi there - there is a cosmobiology module within Planetdance. I designed it to replicated Ebertin's working methods.

You can download here:

www.jcremers.com

I have a video introduction on youtube.

Any questions, just let me know.

Thanks. Ed

Hi James - Planetdance definitely runs on Linux. I use Linux Mint 19.1 with the XFCE desktop on a number of PCs and laptops and the software runs fine. Your friend will need to install Wine on to your machine. This software allows Windows programs to run on Linux.

Jean Cremers, the developer of Planetdance, uses the same setup, so every new update of Planetdance is tested on Linux.

The main challenge with running Planetdance on older hardware is screen resolution and the software is really designed to run on displays with a minimum size of 1366 x 768, the typical resolution of an older laptop.

I run Planetdance on an Acer Aspire One ZA3, the first, or at least one of the earliest, versions of this machine and it's fine.

You will find lots of further information about the program in Jean's forum:

https://jcremers.com/forum/

I tend to keep people up to date via the Planetdance forum rather than Facebook as I don't have a FB account.

There is also a thread on Skyscript that I periodically update.

http://skyscript.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9913

You can find a very good review of the software here:

https://livingincycles.blog/category/astrology/

All the best. Ed

Astrolog is a free program that can do 90 degree dials (which is equivalent to the 4th harmonic). Very Happy You can specify any harmonic factor adjustment you want in the program in the "Setting / Calculation Settings" dialog or with the "-x" command line switch. (For example, set it to 3 for a 120 degree dial, 16 for a 22.5 degree dial, etc.)

Harmonic factors in the program can also be negative, which will arrange planets in reverse order around the wheel. For example, if you want to get the antiscia positions of planets in Astrolog (which is the reflection of positions across the Cancer/Capricorn axis) then just set the harmonic chart factor to -1 to get planets in reverse order, and also set the ayanamsa zodiac degree offset to 180 to rotate everything to the right position.

Just wondering if anyone has tried the "TIMEPASSAGES" software by Henry Seltzer? I have a mac, so I thought I'd give this one a try….

Understood, I don't like "bloatware" either! Razz Fortunately, Astrolog is high performance, doesn't take up much space, and doesn't do weird things on setup like mess with the Windows registry too much. Astrolog nicely runs on older systems like Windows XP, and its download is only 4 MB in size (and that includes ephemeris, atlas, timezones, etc).

Can Astrolog choose a white or pastel background rather than black? Does the program have a print feature? I have some students who might like to try the program.

Yes, select "Graphics / Reverse Background" to toggle between black and white backgrounds. For example, see below for a white background quad-wheel. Also, in dialogs you can customize the colors of signs, planets, etc, to be anything you want (and even the background to something other than just black or white).

Yes, Astrolog can print with its "File / Print" command, and also copy charts to the clipboard with "Edit / Copy Chart Bitmap" (if you want to paste them into Microsoft Word or some other word processor).

I tried using the program and it seems to me that it is more accurate than hand-made diagrams. The program clearly draws a line, but a person can draw a line that is not perfect.
